Do I need a new Blu-ray player, cable box, game console, or AV receiver to Play 3D Content

Do I need a new Blu-Ray player, Cable Box, Game Console, or AV Receiver to Play 3D Content?

With one exception the answer for Blu-ray players is "yes." No Blu-ray player maker has announced an upgrade to existing 2009 or earlier Blu-ray players to work with Blu-ray 3D movies, so a new 3D Blu-ray player will be required to watch 3D BD movies.

Sony has publicly announced the plans to provide software upgrades for the Playstation 3 to provide both 3D gaming and 3D Blu-ray playback.* Mitsubishi believes their 3D adapter will be compatible with the 3D signal output from the PS3 but until Sony provides the upgrade this cannot be guaranteed.

For details on Sony’s plans, please contact Sony. There are a few individual games developed for PS3 and Xbox 360 that have 3D settings which include the checkerboard format needed for Mitsubishi 3D Ready TVs .
