What is Fios Phone?

Fios phone is pretty much your same old phone except for improved equipment which will enhance voice clarity. Most people assume Fios Phone is like Vonage. Fios Phone unlike Vonage, does not transmit over the Internet. When you make a call at your house the process is pretty much the same as it has been for years. Only difference is that once your voice leaves your house, it is transformed so that it can travel via fiber cable. The new equipment maintains voice clarity to its destination.

Why should I even bother you ask?

Bundles! By bundling Fios Internet, Fios TV and Fios Phone, you are most likely to save more than getting the same services from 3 different companies. The single bill doesn’t hurt either :-) And for those wondering, Yes! You can have Fios Internet and Fios TV without getting Fios Phone.

With the introduction of Fiber Optics, the phone company’s will relay less and less on Satellite transmission. This means less dropped calls, less cross talk and also fewer or no echoes.

Have you ever made landline calls and you keep hearing other people in your conversation? Fiber is aiming to change that. Also for those who make International calls you are probably used to echoes or long delays. This is normally due to calls bouncing from one satellite to another. Phone Companies like Verizon are laying fiber cable to connect the US mainland with Europe and Asia. A good example is the Trans Pacific Express. This is a joint venture between Verizon and a consortium of Asia-Pacific comapnies to connect the US Mainland and Asia using Fiber Optic Cables. Project is already underway.

Does Verizon have an Internet Phone?

Short answer was Yes! It was called Voicewing, Verizon VoiceWing . Just like Vonage, you could use this service with any Broadband Connection. It could be Cable, DSL Fios etc.

But.. It was discontinued by Verizon. There was a Biiig battle between Verizon and Vonage. Basically Vonage had "Stolen" verizon’s technology. At one time Vonage was ordered by a judge to even stop accepting New customers!! Some how the lawsuit just disappeared, Verizon said little and Vonage was mum!!! Verizon Voicewing disappeared at the same time!
